I thought that is what NATO is for. Hurricane Katrina proved that America is stretched to the limits in protecting their own. If in case it has been forgotten, the military was downsized in the 1990's to near non-existence. The same troops are being re-deployed time after time. The military is hurting! I think it is best that Americans you encourage your representatives to keep the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Amendment Rights in tact, just in case! We have been invaded on our own soil and everybody is giving into them, just like Europe has.

China cannot afford to invade Taiwan, Like its been said nato would impose embargos. And don't be to nervous about China invading anybody unless they can walk there. They may have the biggest Army in the world but no way to transport it very far except by foot. Yeh.. Im not saying there behind in technology just waaaayyyyy behind on military movement. Remember how small Japan is? They invaded and took over most of china during WW2..

China isn't going to invade Taiwan. They are far too patient, they are nowhere near prepared for such an invasion to succeed at an affordable military cost, and they'd be isolated at a time they can't afford to be isolated.
In addition, they would lose a huge bargaining chip with the West. They would no longer be able to get favors from the U.S. in exchange for not invading Taiwan.
It would set their economy back fifty years if they lost access to the world markets, and they would most certainly lose access to the world markets. Their ability to get oil direct from Iran would be meaningless, since they depend on the world market to get the money to buy it.

Anyone in the military will tell you that China CANNOT attack Taiwan despite our war in the middle east. The reason is because they would have to launch their attack over all of the U.S. 7th Fleet assets that are standing by for just such an occassion! We have always been positioned to defend Taiwan if needed. Just because we have much of our military in Iraq does not by any means mean that we don't have plenty left for everyone else. We have 'contingency' forces pre-positioned off N. Korea, Taiwan, the Med. Sea, even off of our own coasts.....just in case. And I assure you, one U.S. Navy Destroyer can do the work of most countries' entire military!

That's irrelevant. If China invaded Taiwan, they would be universally condemned by NATO and the United Nations. Massive trade embargoes would result, and the Chinese economy would collapse within weeks if we stopped buying all their plastic trinkets.

No, Taiwan is on their own. We could not help them, not even with supplies due to their geographical location to China.

I'm sure the attempt would be made. Are you suggesting we cut and run just because there is a possibility?
We have planners for what if problems, leave it to them
