Saturday I was on a bus when a chap and his carerer got on the bus - he was in a wheel chair having no limbs beyond the knees. The ignorant driver after watching them struggle with the chair to get on, then proceeded to ask for their passes of which were not to hand after the struggle, they got quite perplexed. I was livid as indeed other passengers were. I have emailed the depot and awaiting a response - could do with as many people bringing to the attention of gmp (manchester) their drivers attitudes. All to often we hear of what the driver has to suffer from passengers - I have news for them we passengers suffer also - and we are paying them for a service - would you get your emails going to bring this to attention if you obviously have experienced such behavior or even heard of such. They need to learn public relations for sure.

I did assist them and told the driver as did others just what we thought of him - sorry, I am still annoyed at their treatment that I forgot to put that.

My sibling once told me the reasson bus drivers are so grouchy in England is they didn't pass the test that cabdrivers have to take to be cabdrivers so they are bus drivers instead. He just took a semester of college in England and he's your typical normal average genis.

Regulations in some places may not allow drivers to help due to liability issues. The bad attitude otherwise, that is a sad thing that seems to accompany transit drivers in most of the world, from the little I know.

I do think the term "service" has also gone to the dust bin, and must be trained out of people before they are allowed to deal with the public.

Do you have a Department of Public Transportation or something like that? If yes, I would document everything in a letter, with the number/time of the bus. If you don't have a department that you could write to, write the editor of a local paper. I'm sure you could get someone's attention. Add any additional e-mails/comments that you may receive on the subject, but make sure they are valid.

It's the drivers JOB to collect the fare! And it's not his job to carry wheelchair passengers aboard!

He could get fired if he didn't collect the fare - he could even get fired for carrying somebody on the bus!

Why not write a letter asking the City of Manchester to put New York City-style wheelchair lifts on your busses, so wheelchair passenegers would be automatically lifted onto the bus?

I was on a bus in Hammersmith, London - A taxi driver cut up the bus I was on - So the bus driver over took him, and on a very busy round-a-bout (hammersmith broadway if anyone know it) stopped in front of the taxi driver - for about 5-10 minutes - the lights changed 4 / 5 times - This bus driver blocked the entire roundabout. could'nt beleive how pety he was being.

But Ive also seen bus drivers attacked and abused and stuff on buses also - I think it can be quite a stressful job - I wouldn't like to do it

I think a bad attitude is a compulsory requirement for being a bus driver! They all seem to have a chip on their shoulder for some reason. And my how they love to abuse what smidgen of power they have... its quite tragic really. I do think they should have to take part in customer service training, if they don't already.

Dont get me started on bus drivers! First not many of them actually talk english! Secondly if you have the exact change they're still grumpy and if you dont they moan to you about it and I've even been threatened that we wont get picked up if we dont have the right change (I'm a student they dont like us!) Also if they havent heard of where you want to be dropped off but you know your on the right bus cos you've got on it a million times then they try and kick you off the bus!

Tho I'm not saying that I havent come across a nice bus driver just they are usually grumpy.

What the hell do you want from the driver? this guy had a carer with him? and the buses have enough room to move a wheelchair into the disabled spot?

The driver isn't expected to help people on, the very most he has to do is lower the suspension.

You will probally not get any action from the bus company. They will just send you a standard letter of apology and forget about it.The people you should complain to are The Traffic Commissioners, might get some action then.
