Drugs and crime are bad in the US. That is true! But drugs and crime are bad everywhere too!
I live in an area where I see a lot of it. The worst thing I have seen is a teenager trying to get their younger sibling to take drugs. Terrible! But really, I think there does need to be some assistance with the police! I see way too much bullying and abuse of power. I have experienced it as well.

When I visited America last time I went cycling along the Hudson river (a popular cycle route). I was amazed to see people leaving their $2000 bikes standing around UNLOCKED. For I moment I felt as if I was Scandinavia, not half an hour from central NYC. America has a few crime hot spots but on the whole it's very safe I think.

Crime is not a big problem in this country. If you think about it the people you have to be most fearful ones are the ones you know. close to 85 percent of crimes are situatoins where the victim knew their attacker. Yes there are problem spots, Detroit and Camden, NJ come to mind but about 3 percent of our country has places like that and others are much safer than what the news would tell you.

In proportion to the number of people in the US, the crime rate is not that bad, but it is worse in some areas than in others. I live in NC and you here of some crimes, but there really isn't a great deal of crime in proportion to some place like LA or Chicago.

Where's OZ?

The drug one is a little hard to answer, because there's a big difference between drug use, anti-drug legislation, and anti-drug arrest/prosecution.

Zimbabwe, USA, NZ, and UK have similar levels of assaults per capita, ranking between #5 and #8 on the list

USA is #17 for burglaries per capita, with Australia at #1.

USA is #24 for murders per capita.

The US loves to lock people up - they're #1 for prisoners per capita.

The USA is #9 for rapes per capita.

The USA is #11 for robberies per capita.

The USA is #8 for total crimes per capita, with countries like Denmark, Finland, NZ, and UK worse, and Netherlands, SA, Germany and Canada being slightly better.

It's a big country; crime and law enforcement vary widely based on location.

It depends on the area. Some areas, like Oakland, CA, have very high crime rate. Yet when you drive just few miles away from it, the towns are crime-free.

Drugs and crime are a problem in the USA as they are anywhere else.

Crime in this country is basically centered around impoverished areas. That's why no one does anything about it.
