Numbs the gums... for dental procedures. There is an over the counter topical liquid that is used for toothaches, but I can't remember the name... it uses lidocaine as its chief ingredient.

lidocaine is a numbing agent. it is not only used i denistry. my daughter was given patches to apply to the pain in her back. i have used these patches also & they work wonderfully. doris
