We are looking for a new small diesel 4x4 with an auto gearbox. Toyota only list a diesel with a manual box for the UK market. I am prepared to import a car if necessary

Hi! I've tryed having a look for you on this site...I typed in Rav4 diesel auto & it came up with these..but I'm not sure if there diesel auto's..,. check it out & also you can email Rav4 owners with questions...good luck!

To my knowledge the Rav4 is not available as a diesel with an auto box in any Right-hand-drive countries.
You might consider the Land Rover Freelander which is available with a 2.2 diesel and auto box, or the new Vauxhall Antara which is available with a 2.0 diesel and auto box. Chevrolet's new Captiva is also available with a diesel engine and automatic transmission.
For some reason, the Japanese don't seem to like oil burners with auto boxes. Toyota, Honda and Nissan all seem to ignore this market in their small 4x4s. The Nissan Navara truck however has a 2.5 auto diesel.

Not that I'm aware of. I think there is plans for the new Rav to get an autobox for the diesel next year, but it's not exactly a small 4x4 any more.
