I'm not talking about avoiding getting sunburnt in the first place. that much is obvious. I'm talking about AFTER sunburn has taken place. Peeling... sun damage drying out the skin? would liberal applications of after sun cream/other cream help?

No you said it sun BURN- burns blister and peel, if there was a miracle cream, all burn victims wouldn't suffer the dis-forming scaring.

If its really bad, & blisters pretty much straight away, then its going to peel regardless of what you put on it,
but otherwise if its red & sore, you will find that ALOE VERA is pretty miraculous stuff when it comes to healing sunburn, especially if you can scoop it straight from the plant, but the 99% pure Aloe you can buy in health stores is still pretty good, & willl take the sting out of any sunburn, & stop it from peeling.

After Sun cream may help... But too much sun in the first place causes the damage. At one time after being sun burnt I used plain yogurt to help cool my skin down first ? And that did help... mind, shower after afew hours before you apply the After Sun cream. as this really smells.

Yes when I used to get sun burnt I would always lotion up real good and not pick at the skin it will go away and it will fall off when you are in the shower. You should not pick a sunburn as it will leave scars.

Unfortunately it's gonna peel no matter what, because the skin is dead. However, when I got badly burnt on my left shoulder last year, I put tonnes of Vaseline on the affected area and then put a bandage over it. It healed up incredibly quickly!! It didn't scar at all either.

Sunlight and tanning is bad for you in the first place! It ages your skin prematurely and increases skin cancers, both malignant melanomas, basal cell carcinomas and epithelial carcinomas.

Better to stay pale and interesting or use a chemical tan instead.
