Sounds like you are off to a good start. If he can pull his own pants up and down, and, he knows sitting on the potty means to do your business. Then he should do fine during the day with pull ups. I would let him wear his diaper at night until he is completely trained. Some children take longer for PM potty training. Most children are potty trained by the age of two or at least on the way. Good luck. Potty training is not an easy chore. Especially with your first.

You have to provide the space for success - and yes, sometimes failure... It sounds to me like your son is ready! Basicly, at this point, you have to be heads up and hands on constantly... What I did was now have my child wear underwear during the day and check with them every 15 to 20 minutes to see if they needed to use the potty and made it an adventure and exciting to be a success. At night, I would use a diaper to be safe... by 2, my child was completely potty trained and would sleep through the evening without needing the diaper backup. You sound like you are on the perfect track for this path. Congratulations!!!

I think you're pretty much there. Lose the diaper and put him in real underwear. If he doesn't have any accidents he's completely potty trained. If he only has a few, you're almost there. Potty training can be successful as young as 16 mos if the child is ready and it sure sounds like he is.

Its time you switch to pull up if your child already pull hispants down and sits on potty. He is ready my dear, dont wait longer throw away those pampers and go run to buy pull ups and pick up some underwear on the way also! He is going to be two, thats the perfect age for a kid be potty trained.
GOOD LUCK!
Here are some signs:
Physical signs
Urinates a fair amount at one time.
Has regular, well-formed bowel movements at relatively predictable times.
Has "dry" periods of at least three or four hours, which shows that her bladder muscles are developed enough to hold urine.
Behavioral signs
Can sit down quietly in one position for two to five minutes.
Can pull her pants up and down.
Dislikes the feeling of wearing a wet or dirty diaper.
Shows interest in others' bathroom habits (wants to watch you go to the bathroom or wear underwear).
Gives a physical or verbal sign when she's having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.
Demonstrates a desire for independence.
Takes pride in her accomplishments.
Isn't resistant to learning to use the toilet.
Is in a generally cooperative stage, not a negative or contrary one.
Cognitive signs
Can follow simple instructions, like "go sit on the potty," and communicate needs, such as "I need to make peepee."
Understands the value of putting things where they belong.
Has words for urine and stool.
Understands the physical signals that mean she has to go and can tell you before it happens or even hold it until she has time to get to the potty.

it is not to soon, but pull ups are expensive and a waste of money, buy some underwear, for 2-3 days you will have a lot of laundry but by 7-9 days it will be done, if you use pull ups it will take a lot longer, i have 5 children and my 4 boys were potty trained by 18 months some earlier, my little girl is only 6 months, your hubby thinks it is too soon because people are potty training later and later, since the great pull ups arrived on the seen, but have him ask his parents and grandparents, if your child knows he is going then it's time, if you wait it will be a lot harder, just watch on here how much trouble parents are having with their 2 yr olds, you are right go with it, but i strongly suggest no pull ups

if he's taking his own things down buy him some training pants to give him even more freedom and only use diapers at night. my daughter was totally trained by her second birthday (she's nearly 3) and i used training pants during the day when we were going anywhere but sometimes i let her run round with nothing on her bottoms at all, or just normal underwear so she got use to the feel.
sounds like he's ready tho, take the next step and get him some trainers!

Dont worry is if he goes back words bc a pullup is differant than a diaper in their minds. My daughter went backwards for a little bit but she is doing great now. If he does go backwards not saying he will what ever you do dont quickly go back to diapers let him do a trail run for a little while.

He can go on the pot all he wants, but until you can get him to say "potty" or otherwise signal to an adult the need to go, I wouldn't consider him potty trained, rather you're the one trained!

Pullups have tear away sides wo they can be removed like diapers if needed, aside from the fact pullups are more expensive I don't see the big deal.
To me he sounds ready, and really if you aren't punishing him for going in his diaper and he wants to go in the pot let him go.
