PT can mean patient if he's in the medical corps, but most typically it means Physical Training. Exercise, running, push ups, pull ups, sit ups and the like. The military is full of acronyms, so it does get confusing.

it depends on the context.

I am familiary with the PT standard, or the Physical Training Standard that all army enlistees have to pass.

PT is Physical Training, however, if it is written on his medical records, PT is patient.

My assumption would be that he was a PVT which means that he was a private.
