How about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. How about a cape to play in? Make it one that isn't "defined" as princess or something like that so she can be many things.
Look on ebay for an item called Walking Gnome. They are very cute and children love to play with them! They are little hand knit puppets. ebay is the only place I've found them.
Keep her toys simple - make sure they don't do anything on their own, like make noise or move. That way, all the play she does with them comes from her own imagination, not the toy company's!

A lot of three year old girls love dress-up and baby dolls. I gave my dads girlfriends daughter who is two and a half, dress up shoes like the ones in Wizard of Oz, nail polish that dries in 60 seconds and a stroller for her baby doll and she loved it.

lol when i was 3 yrs old i really wanted a puppy and i loved playing with cars, i also was very fond of BIG plush toys (i still am XD) but i think that 3yr olds really don't pay much attention to clothes, atleast i didn't =]
