There is a story in Islamic history books about one of prophet Muhammed's companions who wanted to marry a girl but he could not afford her dowry (in Islam men have to pay dowry for the bride). The companion went to prophet Muhammed and asked him for some money. Prophet Muhammed told the companion he had no money to give him BUT he can send him in a war mission so that he could make some money from loots. The man went to the mission and had many loots and also enslaved a beautiful woman, so that he was able to marry and also had concubine in one shot.
Does this mean that looting was the only income for some of prophet Muhammed's companions?
