Working out in the morning has some desirable conditions. While you sleep your body goes through a process called fasting. Normally you eat every 2-3 hours throughout the day, but during your sleep you won't eat anything for about 6-8 hours. Your body uses up a lot of stored carbs and burns calories taking care of your normal body processes. Thus when you wake up in the morning and exercise, your body isn't calling upon stored carbs you have consumed throughout the day. Rather it calls upon breaking down fat for energy, making it one of the most ideal times in the day to workout.

A second benefit is that your body's metabolism is at its highest first thing in the morning. This is the exact reason many diet books suggest eating the most amount of carbs during breakfast. But what this means for exercise is that you will be able to burn fat easier and more efficiently using the same intensity as you would for an evening workout.

If you do decide to work out in the mornings remember to fuel up afterwards with a nutritious and balanced meal. Don't be afraid of carbs because your metabolism will be high, and you will need those carbs later in the day, or else you will feel tired and restless. Also make sure to get an adequate source of protein so that your muscles are receiving fuel for the day as well. No matter when you workout the important thing is to remember to keep at it, and have fun doing it. If you enjoy it more in the evening then by all means do it then. Good luck!

It is the best time of day to do it. Make sure you eat something first like and apple or a banana to keep your energy level up. Do not eat a full breakfast or drink anything besides water or something like gatorade. Caffeine and a full breakfast will slow down your work out leading to cramps and undesired results. Good luck!

Take a moment to read the paper and have a glass of water first...then workout. If you still don't feel quite up to snuff, then you may want to try a different time of day.
