She had never had a seizure before and these were bad, just kind of fell over, loss of bladder control, eyes rolled back ,bit her tongue badly. Took her to the Vet where extensive tests were done concluding that she had Thyroid problems and an irregular heartbeat. Cleaning out my pantry I found 2 cans of the Beef vegies in Gravy, this is typically what she eats along with dry. Could tainted dog food caused these seizures? I ran up $1K in tests over the following week trying to get an answer. Is there a test my Vet can perform to determine if it was the dog food and what recourse do I have against Iams if in fact it was the food?

So far the recalled foods have only been linked to renal (kidney) failure. Cornell determined on Friday that the cause of sickness was a rat poison not used in the US that was mixed in with the food. It causes crystals to be deposited in the kidneys, destroying the function. We still have no way to test for these crystals, as this is a new crisis, but researchers are working on it.
I work in a large veterinary hospital and we have seen a lot of these animals in renal failure, but none that presented for seizures, as far as I know. There may be many causes to your dog's epilepsy.
There are a number of class action lawsuits being formed, but you should be sure that your dog's illness corresponds to the symptoms that the other animals are having.

Oh, poor baby (both you and your dog...I'm a boxer lover, too)! The seizure sounds like an epileptic fit. I've seen other breeds (Corgis and Dalmatians) have them and it's not pretty. Three of my four boxers have had heart disease - that's not uncommon in the breed. Let your vet guide you through this one, for your sake and your dog's.

The tainted dog food has caused kidney failure mostly...not seizures that I've heard of. If that is indeed what has happened to your dog, there is very little you can do about it from the standpoint of recourse against the manufacturer.

if she is pure bred boxer then its part of the health problems the breed devolopes. She may have some imbalace. you should have went to a good known vet and not a local one. Dont go blaming food if that has been her reguler diet. Her age and the common health problems for the breed are what to look at. She may have a nerve problem. Again she is gettingh older

Iams cuts and gravy food is on the list. Go to www.menufoods.com/recall for a full list and more information. Go to dog products and click on Iams, it will give you more complete information. You would need to check the cans for some numbers/dates to know for sure.
