I know it's tradition to get the girls thank you gifts but I'm totally stumped as to what! One of them is 16 and the other 6, but I don't want to go down the obvious route of jewellery!

I did LL Bean Boat and Tote bags (I preferred the long handled ones with the zip top) and the girls LOVED them - they use them all the time. I even got one for myself and I always use it.

You can get a medium sized one for the 16 year old and the small one for the six year old. We gave my niece, who was the flower girl, a smaller tote bag with some books in it and she still carries her books around in it whenever they go anywhere.

I also made Handmade Swarovski Crystal and silver bracelet - each one is a little different, and I put a tiny silver star charm on each since the theme of the wedding was stars. I know you don't want to do jewelry, but a handmade piece is really something special, especially if it's something they can wear again.

Picture Frame - I found this AWESOME pink and silver frame that was perfect for one of my BMs, then lucked out and found three more frames, each perfect for the person they were intended for. I did an insert for each frame with the girl's name and a quote that fit our relationship or them. At the bottom of the sheet, I put that it was good for one 5x7 of their choosing from the wedding pictures. they LOVED it

Clearly with one 16 and one 6 you can't get them both the same thing. Is that all the bridesmaids you are having? No friends?

Cause if you were having friends I'd get the 16 yr old the same thing I got the older girls. After all, a 16 yr considers herself a complete adult. I mean according to the states, she can drive a car, hold a job, and drop out of school without her parents permission. She's grown! It would be a slight to her to not treat her like a regular bridesmaid. However, if it's just those two--pretend this is more of a birthday. Get them something unique to them. Consider what they both like.

Honestly, a thank you gift for a 6 yr old is just something they would like. I agree that jewelry isn't the best idea. Her mom will just hold it in safe keeping and she won't get to use it anyway. Whats big in 6 yr old land right now? Dora the Explorer? Webkins? I'd maybe go to the Disney store and look into something there. Build-a-bear giftcard. Or better yet if you have the time go WITH her to build-a-bear and get the outfit. http://www.buildabear.com/

For the 16 year old, I'm not sure what type of a 16 yr old she is. Most of my friends were all into boys and makeup. Either some lip gloss or a cool new purse. Maybe giftcard to movie theater or a restaurant. Maybe jewelry but something more everyday, not for the wedding. Something funky and cool. I was a complete tomboy and would have rather had new cleats or a giftcard to the racquet club so I get get a new grip and new strings on my tennis racquet. I didn't care a thing about hair and makeup, just sports.

Get them something unique to them. Something they would particularly like just like you would if it were Christmas or their birthday. There is probably nothing that both the 16 yo and the 6 yo would both like and no point in trying to get them something neither would like as it is suppose to be a thankyou gift. If the 16 yo has a birthday coming up, I'd just ask her what she wants. She'll probably give you a couple suggestions and you can get one for the wedding and one for the birthday. If you don't know what the 6 yo interests are, call her mom. My guess is Webkins though.

Either way, I completely agree with you that I'd stay away from the obvious jewelry route.

People sometimes buys them their bridesmaids dresses as the gift if you can't think of anything else. I bought those small fancy decor boxes that they can put whatever they want in it. I also bought them their necklaces and earrings that they'll be wearing in the wedding to put inside to box...but you can do without the jewelery. All ages will love the little trinket box to put anything they want in it, or they can just use as a decoration piece around their room/house.

We got a princess Barbie for our flower girl, who was 4 at the time of our wedding. I took my bridesmaids (my sister and my husband-to-be's sister) out the day before the wedding for a mani/pedi and massage. Our wedding was tropical-themed because we moved to Hawaii 35 days after the wedding, so we got our mothers pretty pareau (sarongs) in colors they liked and Aloha shirt clocks for all of the groomsmen and our fathers. If you have a theme, get your attendants something based on the theme.

i would go with personalized photo frames with a pic from the wedding of the special girls with or without u. maybe a candid moment that the photgrapher just happened to take. I woudl talk to the photographer and make sure he pays a little extra attentioni to those ladies. here are a few stores that have the engraveable frames I liked the second one bcos the glass just makes it look fancier

I was actually going to suggest jewlery...but something really personal, like an engraved locket for the 6-yr-old. Maybe a framed portrait of them in their bridesmaids dresses?

I think I would go for a girls day out and spend a little money on both of them. This way they can decide and not only do they have what you bought for them but they also have the memory of spending the day together with you. Well this way you will know they like the gift you get them.

If you want to get them inexpensive, but beautiful jewellery then try www.gemstv.co.uk or watch the channels Gems 1 and Gems 2 on the telly. The jewellery is all real - not costume or fake. There are so many designs that you are sure to find something to suit every taste and budget.

Best wishes for the big day.

Hi - when I got married last year, I got all 4 of my girls the tiara theyd wear on the day (gold with red and clear crystals on, very unusual). Then as their main presents, I bought them a present that was personal for them. So for my little sister I got her a pretty necklace, for my best mate I got her a purse and moneybank (shes an accountant!), for big sis in law I got smellies and for younger sis in law I got her PJs. Not very wedding-y BUT theyd all use their presents and it showed we'd thought about what each would like. Hope this helps, and good luck on the big day!xx PS Did the same for the 2 Mums, got them clothes, and for the Dads magazine subscriptions (my Dads into radio controlled cars and hubbys Dad is into travelling so got him National Geographic)
