My doctor says he can,t see any swelling. But it is getting me down now.It throbs all day and there,s a permanent ache behind my eye all the while.I take 4 strong ibrobrufen tablets but they don.t touch the pain.People comment on it so it is not just my imagination. Also when you put anything hot on it it hurts, but put anything hot on my other eye which is ok there is no pain.Could i have some sort of cyst or abscess in or on my eyelid that is causing all the pain and inflammation.

If you're not peeping through keyholes, I really suggest that the best person to consult is an optician as they deal with eyes all the time & would probably see something that your GP is unable to find. Alternatively, have you got an opthalmic hospital near you - or sometimes you can self refer to an opthalmic department at your local hospital. Without more details, it's difficult to suggest what it might be but if it's been going on for as long as you say it has & there is that amount of pain, I would insist on some help. Good luck & hope you are soon better.

Try visiting your opticians they can do a special scan of the eye. I had a similar problem with an itchy 'tearful' eye, and afte rbeing misdiagnosed several times (including the hospital eye clinic) the opticians told me the problem was a condition called blepharitus.

Apparently it blocks the pores of the eye lid (where the lashes grow) and your eye lid can become inflammed and extremely irratable. I know when mine does flare up (I only get it occasionally but knew someone who suffered constantly) it totally incapacitates me.

There is no cure but there is an easy daily treatment - so it may be worth checking out

I think you should go back to your doctor, and if he still can't find anything, insist on being referred to an eye specialist. Alternatively, you could see an optician - they have specialist equipment which a GP doesn't have. Good luck!

return to your doctor for ff-up or consult a new opthalmologist if your not satisfy with the first one. For now, don't put anything on it, it is best to be inspected again.

if everyone else is seeing it and your dr isn't, see a different dr. A stye only lasts a few days so what ever it is you need to see a dr who isn't suffering from his own visual impairment.
