Grounding in the sense of you take everything away works best with older children. For the younger children I believe that if you take items based on the "crime" it works. It is a modification on grounding.

It all depends on how old the child is. They say that you should punish a small child by using time outs which in my mind is the same as grounding. If the child is two then two minute time outs are effective but when dealing with a six year old for say a full day in their room should be effective. after that they don't even understand why they are there. I myself have three kids and I find that time outs and groundings are very effective. also taking away privleges of a favorite toy works wonders. Good luck! it is not an easy job to be a parent but it is so worthwhile.

My mom thinks that grounding should be for 9-18 y/o for 8 and younger punishment should be a task like ,cleaning the bathroom or doing the dishes or cleaning their room sitting in their room ETC..

How young? I do think taking things away from a child is affect...like a toy ...one at a time, time out works for some....you have to remember that all kids are different and you kinda have to figure it out what works best for your child. for example when my daughter was young she hated to be away from the 'action' so we would put her in rocking chair in another room away from the 'action' never for very long...the rule is one minute for their age. with grounding you have to look at does the child really understand that....when they are very young it really needs to be something that deals with it at the time the unwanted behaivor happens cuz kids won't understand if it's a delayed 'punsiment' good luck.....

Time outs work best for little kids. One minute for each year of their age. Don't for get to explain WHY they are in timeout (they didn't do what you said to do). I think grounding would only work for older kids who have independent privileges...like video game/tv time, car, phone ect. It would depend on what age we are talking here.

I watch Nanny 911, and I don't have children, but she puts them in Time Out quite a bit and it seems to work with those terror children. But you have to stick with it, and not back away from that and be lenient. Good luck!!

how little?, a toddler cannot go anywhere without an adult, so what would be the point, time out or taking away of a game, or toy, something like that
