There are fixed charges that NHS dentists have to charge. The lowest band is £15.50 - This charge includes an examination, diagnosis and preventive care. If necessary, this includes X-rays, scale and polish, and planning for further treatment. For more on Charges, see:

The maximum your NHS dentist will charge is £189.00 for the course of work necessary.

Just go to NHS direct, click on search for dentist, enter details of the area you live. A list of local dentists will come up. Look for one that is still taking on NHS patients. As long as you are unemployed and you have proof (i.e. documentation) then you do not need to pay for a check-up, scale and polish, and fillings if required.

If you are unemployed, then all dental work is free.
Your problem will be finding an NHS dentist in the UK. They are few and far between, i spent 4 years before i managed to find one that had vacancies for new patients. Good luck.

If you are unemployed and receiving benefits such as
Income support
Job seekers allowance
Your pregnant or had a baby within the last 12 months
Your under 18
Your in a young offenders institute
You are named on a Nhs tax exemption certificate.
If any of the above apply to you, you are exempt from all Nhs charges.
There are now only 3 nhs charges
£15.50-standard nhs fee for check up, including Xrays and scale/polish.
£42.40-standard Nhs fee for fillings-amalgam I'm afraid
£189-standard Nhs fee for any crowns/Dentures.
These fees will be going up again on 1st April of this year.
If you opt for private treatment you will have to pay as your exemption will not cover any private treatment.

I very much doubt that you will find one, as they are few and far between nowadays. Contact NHS Direct and they will be able to give you a list of NHS dentists to contact.

provided you are on state benefit you will get free dental, if you aren't then it may be worth finding out if your eligible to claim job seekers allowance.
Try the NHS website to find your local dentist who is currently taking new nhs fee exempt patients.

i live in sheffield where dentists are hard to come bye. but i do get n.h.s treatment because i pay my stamp!!
charle's clifford dental hostpital in sheffield will sort you out for accute treatment tommorow. but if you live in devon or scotland whats the point in asking such a stupid vague question!!!
