Does this mean that I can download Windows Vista without having to get extras like graphic cards and all the other things that people are having troubles with the program so far?

It means it meets the Microsoft minimum recommended specs for Vista. It does NOT mean you'll be able to take advantage of everything Vista has to offer. And even if you meet or exceed the recommended specs to run everything on Vista, it doesn't mean it will be problem free. Vista has shown it has some serious compatibility issues with software and hardware. People are complaining programs that worked great in XP won't run in Vista. People are also complaining that printers, cameras, scanners, external hard drives, etc. that worked great with XP are not working with Vista.

Hate to say it, but I'd stay with XP for the next couple of years and let Microsoft get all the bugs out of Vista. Then I'd buy a computer that has a sticker that says "Designed for Windows Vista - Windows Vienna Capable" (Vienna is the early code name for the next system after Vista.) These articles by a Yahoo tech writer might give you some added insight:

First of all let me apologise for Barbara's (the random person i dont know, above) behaviour it is against community guidlines and is uncommon and i will report abuse for such vulgar racist idiotic comments. (plus she can't even spell ****ger [i had to put the star so it wouldnt block it)

And now to the question. You laptop is very likely to be completely compatible with Vista. This means it was shipped with drivers that Vista will not be incompatible with. Also it means it has decent capabilities to handle the memory hungry Aero theme that is the central feature of Vista. If you are still unsure download the upgrade advisor from Microsoft, it will analyse your system and tell you if you can upgrade to Vista. Also, my personal advice is not to upgrade at all, i find Vista to be extremely frilly and uses more memory than needed. XP is a better balance, and will work with more software and devices like printers and scanners easier.
