Should a 14 1/2 year old be aloud to begin practice driving in an open parking lot?

If mom and dad think their ready than as long as it's a nice open and preferably vacant lot, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I think I'd search for something like a church or school parking lot on a quiet weekend afternoon when there isn't anything going on.

Good luck and be careful.

That isn't the question I would be asking myself, if it were my 14 year old. I would have to ask myself if I was willing to pay for any damage that could be done when the child goes driving in that parking lot.

sure, i let my son practice in a big empty parking lot when he was that age and i was in the car with him. how else is he ever going to know what driving feels like before he gets on a real road.

Absolutely not, unless they have a learner's permit.

Adding a minor to your insurance when they get licensed is expensive enough, but getting fined for letting someone drive your car who doesn't have a license/permit, and then adding a minor who's already gotten fined for driving without a permit, is more insurance trouble than I'd care to risk.

Not only risk, what message are you sending to your child? "It's okay to break the laws sometimes, if it looks like no one's around."

Lovely, huh?

Check your laws -- that might not be legal in your state/country. While I agree that some lessons might be in order at that age, you have to consider that if you break the law and are caught, that's a huge strike against the teen ever getting their legal learner's permit.

As long as the parking lot is completely empty i think you would be fine. Got to learn somewhere

of couse. thats how i leanred. if you dont give a kid a little experience behind the wheel before getting his test, they wont know what tehy are doing. it is even arite to let a 12yr back teh car out the driveway. when i was little, my dad and grandpa used to let me sit on their laps and steer the car into the driveway.

no, because it is still against the law if a police man comes they could be arrested and so could you, so no wait untill they have their leaners.
