He's in the Army reserves, yes he's probably going to Iraq. And I kind of work for the VA.

Well first off, you will be home alot by your self, why he is out, serving our country and fighting for the rights of all of us.... And you may not receive letters as often as you would like, If you want you prolly could be stationed on a military base with him,but you would still be alone while he is in Iraq... Good luck..

I'm dating someone in the regular force (Canadian army, and we're in Afghanistan so I speak from experience).

I don't know how the reserves work in the states, but here they still carry on civilian lives and don't have to be stuck on base every day to work so you're lucky in that respect, if it's the same there. But, expect to spend long periods of time away from him while he's on training, and of course during deployments. Expect plans being canceled pretty often due to work (ie, he gets held at the base for the weekend when he was supposed to come home, has to stay an extra month or two etc in Iraq). And expect there to be things he simply cannot tell you. It can be pretty irritating, but if you keep in mind that it's nothing against you, you'll get used to it.

Oh, and be aware that he probably has a large ego! haha but otherwise, they're good men for the most part.

Not alll army men just go out and have sex randomly. I would just be aware that sometimes there are things that he can't tell you and it's hard because you feel like he's hiding something. Also, when he's deployed(mine is currently) he can't say much at all, you can't ask what did you do today, so be creative when you talk so he gets his fill of you each day. When those boys are over there, the only thing he has to look forward to is coming home to you, and in the mean time...he awaits every email with excitement. Being deployed, as hard as it is, will make or break a relaitonship...some people can't handle the distance and so little communication but others use it as a way to get to know one another on a veryyy deep level. Just be strong.

The answers that say assume that he will cheat is just simply.... civilian bull.

Yes it may be tough. But the payoff can be tremendous if one is understanding and supportive. Like not saying "I never see you". You marry military and you will be surrounded by many others who are in the same boat. Steady pay, benefits, better schools, travel and such help a couple avoid all of the basic issues people have when starting out.

Dating or married to men in the military is the constant deployments and a lot of time apart. Military wives get used to this for months even years. I know a girl who's husband is currently in Korea right now and she's in Iowa with their son, but they make it work. It's up to how well you can deal with being apart from him and what you do to occupy your time. I knew another girl from Iowa who's husband was deployed to Korea for 3 years and it was tough on her since they had a son as well. Women who deal with this have a strong support system in their friends and families and other wives who are dealing with this as well. I would think and consider things before proceeding.

Just be aware that if you really fall in love with this man that at any time, he could be sent away from you and he has no choice!!

Just remember that he will be gone for periods of time.. wether on deployment or just training.
And even more importantly, if it's deployment, there is a possibility that he won't be coming back.
