I'm kind of mixed on the gays in the military, and I served for 9 years.
Here's a story: I had a homosexual Private in my unit when we were over in Iraq for the Gulf War. Our humvee convoy was hit with heavy rocket fire. The first humvee was hit directly, flipping it backwards, landing on top of the humvee behind it. I was in the 2nd humvee, pinned in and unconscience. The Private was ejected from our humvee and injured. However, he realized that i was pinned inside and knocked out, and we were under heavy fire by that point. He and another soldier risked their lives, running over to the vehicle to pull me out to safety. I owe my life to him and the other soldier...... a few minutes later the vehicle i was in caught fire and exploded. Instead i walked away with some minor cuts, etc and I owed my life to those 2.
Back to the point: I would've gone into battle with that homosexual Private in my unit any day, I knew without a doubt that he had my back and I had his. He's become a very good friend of mine and we still to this day get together a couple times a year for a beer or 2 (he lives 200 miles away from me now).
Unfortunatley though, not all homosexuals in the military are like this guy. I know from first hand experience, from my younger days in the military, that doing daily, routine things can be ackward when there's a bit of a "bad apple' homosexual in the group. We were required to shower in groups and I as well as others were very distraut because a small group of homosexuals felt the need to assert themselves in the showers. It is very strange to have a homosexual comment on how nice your package is and the "if only you were gay" speaches.
I know it shouldn't come down to 1 bad apple can ruin the whole bunch, but sometimes its just unavoidable.
I cited 2 real life experiences, one good and one bad. I just wish all soldiers, not just homosexuals, were as brave as the Private that i spoke of.

I don't see it as a necessarily bad thing, so long as they keep their homosexual tendencies to themselves during their free time, then hey, why not? In the military, you need to keep one thing in mind, the task at hand, and make sure that it is delivered in a selfless manner, so as long as they can perform their duties and not cause discomfort amongst the other soldiers.

I think it exists more than most people think.
The main reason for the restriction is from the days when it presented a "security risk;" people would be afraid of being outed, so could be blackmailed.
Nowadays, they're saying it would be bad for morale, that some troops would be uncomfortable around gays. That's the same reasoning they used to keep blacks segregated in the military.

I defer to the commanders who know the most about the workings of the military, along with the proper level of civilian oversight from our elected representatives.

THEY SHOULD BE WELCOMED !!!
XTians will argue "its abomination" in the old testament..But yet, those same mislead -idiot-"i think im holy"-fake demon casting out"- followers of the TBN false "profit" prophets.. and other CEO's in the *Jesus Business inc " will run out and eat pork (swine) -which the old testement also calls an abomination both in bible days and still now!
( despite the mis-understood scriptures of Peters vision in Acts ..where even Peter himself closes it by revealing the Vision of Animals are symbolic too people and not his meals. ,,and despite the 'let no man judge you in what you eat scripture"..Paul is addressing the eating of clean foods..not unclean )
SO
STR8 or Gay, a person willing to fight for his/her nation and protect the rights of their fellow countrymen are welcomed.
We should welcome any Homosexual/ or Lesbian willing to do that for their country.

Sexual orientation has no business in the military. That is why the don't ask don't tell policy is brilliant (the only good thing Clinton ever did.)

I think 28 first world countries openly allow gays in the military and they seem to be just fine.

I don't think much of homosexuality wherever it is. It's completely against nature.

We don't let straight guys shower with the gals or vice versa.
What makes gays so special, they can shower with what they desire.
Equal rights for Heteros !
