While I don't think the U.S. should be run by Scripture, it would probably do better if it did. That being said, the founding fathers of the U.S. did use the Bible to help form the basis for the new government. They did not say that the Bible was the law, but used salient points from it to make the law.

The reason that using Scripture as the law of the land would be a bad idea is that it is a spiritual thing. Spiritual words are understood by spiritual people. (I Corinthians 2:13-14) This is why so many here at Y!A twist the Scriptures to ask questions that frankly, amaze those of us who do understand.

As to your broad statement about Christians knowing their Bible, I have read the Bible through (cover to cover) 18 times, and the New Testament alone more than I can recall. I have a Bachelor's in Biblical Studies, and have served in ministry. Every friend I have (those that are Christians) know the Bible at least as well as I, and have never been in professional ministry.

It is true that most (in my opinion) rarely break out the Bible and read it for themselves during the week, but only on Sundays in church. This stunts their growth. But many Christians are well-versed in the Bible.

Why do you lump all Christians together? You're right, some "Christians" dont know their Bibles. Many do though! Some that dont, could possibly be new to Christianity and are very excited about it, but just havent had enough exposure to the Bible to know it backwards and Forwards.

Even still, the Bible is not a book that you read, and then you know it all. It is a complex spiritual, teaching, and historical, manuscript that some have devoted their entire lives to studying and dissecting.

Have respect and realise that you cannot lump all Christians together. It would be like saying all muslims are terrorists - It just isnt true.

Because we have been given "free will" according to scripture. It is up to us to read it, believe it, or not.

God gave this to all mankind with the creation of Adam and Eve.

Some Christians know the bible inside and out...some don't. However, it is my understanding that not all people feel that the US should be run by scripture.

Some would but the men that made the laws in the US would have said they were Christians. As the men that put the words. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Christians want the US to be run by scripture? I never got that memo. But sadly, plenty of Christians don't know the Bible.

Some Christians know their bible quite well, others never look at it, others still are just beginning to learn. Who says they want it run by scripture?

I live in the US. I am not a Christian. I don't think any Country should be run by scripture, and I do not read the bible.

Christians should not think that the U.S. should run by scripture, but only the freedom to be allowed to run their own lives by the token.
To force any other to live by your belief instead of theirs throws a stumbling block into a path, and creates a duty by you to help any other achieve that which you protest to be the correct life.

Cause that horrid women Madam o'haire took bible out of school and but I don't think the biggest concern is a lack of bible reading ... it's a lack of people seeing their need for the Lord. Do you know the Lord ?
