Trends play a big part in advertising. If one company starts then soon many others are following. Sex or the dream of it has helped sell many products sucking on an ice cube to sell a liquor, aftershave/ body gels and sprays have women going out of their minds.
Children are also important in sales and marketing to selling cars -soup and etc.
Permanents are out but long shiny hair is in.
Selling youth is now very big and many companies are aiming for that generation, even advertising for plastic surgery. Marketing is aimed at any and all age groups. Health insurance, retirement plans, nursing homes, senior citizen cruises, depends, dentures. to infant special soaps, diapers, cleansing pads, disposable everything. Probably not what you want but what I think is a good jumping off point
