My dentist says I need to pull two of my teeth. I don't have much money to do this bone replacement because it will cost $260 per tooth. Do I really have to do bone replacement? Or can he just pull these teeth?

Only your dentist can tell you that by looking at your gums and bone that's there. You should go for a second opionion if you're not sure what to do and don't trust your dentist. However, bone replacement is a way to have new bone grow into your jaw for one day if you wish to have an implant there and also to save your gums and keep them healthier.

What is he talking about??? Once the bone in your jaw shrinks or deteriorates its gone. There is no replacing the bone. If your bone erodes enough, it can cause a condition that is termed as an eruption. This is where the bone cannot hold the tooth to your jaw any longer and it starts to back out on its own. If the teeth are loose, this is the first sign. A simple extraction is all that is required. The dentist will usually resommend extraction if food particles are getting down into the roots and under the tooth causing decay and further bone erosion. Go see a different dentist....

It depends on the situation. Are you having the teeth pulled b/c of excessive decay and they can't be repaired? Or is it b/c of bone loss? It's hard to say w/o seeing an x-ray of the teeth. Most times you don't need replacement, but sometimes if there is too much bone loss it's recommended. The bone is usually pretty good at healing itself. Get a 2nd opinion if your that much in doubt - again, it's hard to tell w/o knowing the whole situation. Only going to another dentist can help for sure.
