I think I did it last night. I was making fried chicken and biscuits. My fried chicken is dipped in an egg wash and then into seasoned self-rising flour. The biscuits had baking powder, sugar, and several other ingredients in them. I was trying to save time by getting all my prep work done first, and when it came down to it, I had two identical bowls and couldn't tell which was which. I ended up having hockey puck biscuits and very oddly breaded and flavored fried chicken. What a way to ruin Sunday dinner!

Then there was also the time I added 1 tablespoon salt to potato rosti and it called for only 1 teaspoon. I realized potatoes are bland and need quite a bit of salt, but this was so salty we had to throw the whole thing out. SO much work went into this, I was ready to cry. I guess I must have read the recipe wrong. :(

The very first turkey I ever cooked was for Christmas dinner. I thought I was very clever, and defrosted it in cold water, which worked well. I rinsed the turkey and stuffed it and cooked it in the oven.

On Christmas Day, the family came over. The turkey was delicious. We hardly made a dent in it. After we had eaten first rounds, we started on second helpings of turkey. As I cut into it, the knife made a weird crinkling sound. I looked, and saw the bag of giblets inside the cavity!!

Luckily the packet was ovenproof (apparently), because otherwise we would have a plastic turkey for lunch! Thankfully it didn't affect the taste, but it's been a family story ever since.

I made Thanksgiving Gravy one year. In the instructions, it said to put some of the liquid and some flour in a screw-top jar and shake to make the thickener. Well, I used a tupperware-type container, and the pressure built up. It popped open, spraying gravy everywhere! I was cleaning it off the ceiling!

Worst mistake I made was thinking chili powder and red pepper were the same thing--THEY'RE NOT!! The stuff I made was way too hot to eat-had to make a second batch with no seasoning to mix with the first batch-and it was still hot but edible after mixing them together!

i was making a cake for my nephews birthday and mixed everything together, it seemed a little thick but didn't think anything of it until after it had been in the oven for about 15 minutes and the oil was sitting in the measuring cup on the other counter. that cake was a disaster and i had to go to the bakery and buy him one cause i didn't have time to make another one.
and i have also poured boiling water on my hand while draining spaghetti noodles.

This happened when i was about 12 or 13. I was getting ready to fry chicken nuggets. And i was letting the oil heat up, and i forgot about it, and it caught fire. I didnt know any better so i threw water on it. No one had ever taught me to put flour on it. Anyways, no one was home i was in soooo much trouble, the whole kitchen was black, including the cabnets and ceiling.

hmm... well, once, I was baking in a kitchen with slanted counters so when I took out eggs, they all rolled off and onto the floor! and there was another time when I put too much baking powder in muffins and instead of rising, they sank.... it was heartbreaking...

My husband worked in a commercial kitchen... and somehow salt was put into the sugar bin. An entire days baking was done before it was noticed! THIS is why when I cook in my kitchen, I taste, taste, taste... constantly! (Good excuse, huh???)

One day i was making spagetti sauce and I mistook white mustard for garlic powder. Added two table spoons and diddn't catch it until after all was served. You should've seen the faces around the table.

I made peanut brittle once. I scrubbed my counter, and poured the hot liquid straight on to it (I was young and stupid, and inexperienced) to let it harden. While waiting for it to harden, I noticed the notation in the recipe that said to line the counter with well oiled wax paper. OOOOPPS, needless to say, it not only left marks on the counter, but I had to chip away at it for days!
