Harming, those who say illegals are doing jobs that Americans will not do need to take economics again. Some companies hire illegals because they can pay them dirt, if they were not here they would be forced to pay a higher wage.
Americans will not do these jobs because they can't. Legal citizens have to pay taxes, health care, etc. so the money illegals make is simply NOT a living wage for a lawful citizen. Not to mention it would be illegal to pay a legal citizen less than the minimum wage.
So what would happen if all of the illegal immigrants were deported? The business still has to fill these jobs. Who's left? Legal citizens! If the business can't afford to pay minimum wage, then they will have to figure out another way to operate legally.

Sahil: You are the reason so many people are 'hating' hispanics.
To address the question: I am not willing to pick tomatos for 5 cents a bushel, so in that regards they are helping me, however, I feel they should learn the language and be documented. To jump on the ban-wagon of them being illegals and need to get out is ignorance. You have to get all the facts, like the biggest fact of all, they are miggrant workers, here to make money to support families, if they are forced/chose to leave there home country because of poverty, then how can we expect them to wait years for a visa and afford the money it takes? Immigration reform is the only way I see of a better resolve. A fence that is too funny. A darn river doesnt stop them now, and that is more dangerous and harder to cross than a metel fence. Open the borders? HELL NO! Deportation? Oh yeah that makes alot of since, send them home (on our tax money) only for them to return a week later? Immigration reform people, that is the only way!
(Btw: when illegals are deported SOMETIMES they have to sign a paper saying they wont return for 8 yrs. what good does that do??) They come back with another name etc. Its not as easy as it appears.

I would say both, yes many American are wanting higher paying jobs and the basic workforce is becomeing short, and those who travel from other countries and want just a better life than they had can get it here. but there are many ways illegals are hurting us, for there are those who bring drugs in which should not be happening, they are bringing bad influence, and the one that makes me the angriest is that they are not willing to learn English. that is what is hurting the most, they are bringing the spanish language to the US and it is horrible, this is an English nation and every citizen should speak english. from my view I dislike it when I see menus, signs, etc.... in spanish it is insulting. the superior english being overrun by the inferior spanish. each person who immigrates to America should have to speak english, and until they can they should be fined.

A little of both: The country does need immigrants to fill out the labor force - *NOT* 'jobs Americans won't do' so much as 'jobs there aren't enough Americans to fill.' However, the large number who take advantage of our overly generous welfare and educational systems are becoming a real drain; those who refuse to learn English and become part of our society are creating division and resentment, as well as choosing to become a permanent underclass; and the flood of unregulated immigrants is providing cover (if not actual assistance) to drug runners, arms dealers, sex slavers, and terrorist infiltrators.
On balance illegal immigrants are doing more harm than good, but much of it is due to ignorance or selfishness rather than actual malice.

The key word is illegal. Immigration is the backbone on America, but to those who choose to sneak acroos our borders and then not learn our language, but still send our money back to their countries, only hurt this nation

both, the ones that just want to live and work help by increasing local commerce, but they are also a drag on public services. part of the reason hospitals cost so much for those who can pay. then there are the drug smugglers, rapists, murderers, and on and on....
