Well, here is the story: I've started dating a couple of guys in the last two years. One relationship seems weirder than the other. Everything seems to be perfect just right in the beginning. Then suddenly, it stops, and, for example, the guy turns out to be a complete jerk. Sometimes I feel as if I were living in an Ally McBeal's episode over and over again. Is it me?

Well, I guess some of you have misunderstood my question. When I said that I've dated a couple of guys, I didn't mean at the same time. Brrrr.... human beings....

yeah. it's u. sorry to say that. i find that a lot of my girlfriends say the same thing but from what i've seen, they ignore red flags that pop up fromt he start. then when the guys true personality comes out, they're surprised. not sure if this is the case with you but it sounds like it might be. my advise, pay strict attention to his behavior from the start. if at any moment you feel uncomfortable or he seems a bit off, walk away. also, if the guy seems "perfect" at the beginning (romantic, overly attentive, very giving), he's probably not. most guys turn on the charm really heavy & then it wears off really quickly. If a guy says he "loves you too soon" and that you're the one for him within a few weeks, he's probably not going to be able to keep it up. real loves comes much more slowly. that is just lust & it burns out very quickly. so beware of guys who come on too strong & claim to be in love, etc from the start. Also pay attention to the way your guy treats others, especially those in the service industry. if he's rude to the waiter, he's probably a jerk.

bottom line - watch for signs; these guys couldn't have been totally perfect and then become jerks overnight. there are always signs, we just have to pay attention to them and not push them in the back of our mind. good luck

Ally McBeal? Great show, but, seriously, nobody can live like that. I have been there, I understand what you mean. You can get yourself burn with all those dates, so what you should do is to let it go. Yes, I know it doesn't sound like the right thing to do, but the more you chase love, the more it will go away from you. Relax, we are all in the same boat, I guess, and you have to kiss your quote of frogs in order to get your so called prince, which I truly believe doesn't exist, you will only get a normal man that won't be perfect, but he will be perfect for you. Good luck.

Yes... in a 3 month relationship that was love at first sight and the feelings were so intense, could not be with out eachother..prince charming type, fairy tale romance then Boom..from out of nowhere i realized he had become "too comfortable" i guess and completely turned into a moody, smart talking JERK!! I wanted him to be comfortable and all but jeez..he would just be stressed and lash out at me and just be a total jerk..i never saw this coming at all, beacuse yes it was all so perfect in the beginning and i guess i figured out that once he realized he "got " me and i had feelings also for him that he completely let his guard down which was a bad move for him because like i stated and you also...must have just been a front to get me and then i found out he is a total jerk.....Dump Him!! Move on.. a jerk in the beginnings of a relationship..destined for doom later on..cut your losses and keep it movin'--i know i had too..He was irking the he** outta me.I was thinking i was in the twilight zone..like where the he** did this jerk come from and what'd you do with my prince...MORAL of Story---NEVER was a PRINCE more like a undercover JERK!!

Guys don't turn into jerks anymore than girls do............they're jerks from the beginning, it just takes a little time to find that out........you have to find out about what causes a guy to be a jerk, just as they have to find out you're one too.

It happens to everyone! At first the guy acts all sweet since he is tryin to get to know you and then once he know ur colors and doesn't like it he will change. I believe that there is no such thing as Mr. Perfect. All guys are jerks up to a point!

No Katherine,

Its not you. People don't show their real selves until they are comfortable. So please don't think its you.

People have this idea that we should be the person that other's perceive us to be...instead of just truly living one's life out in the open.

Take heart...I do believe there are some honest, sincere guys out there. Now, its just about finding one with a personality that gels with our own.

Good luck Katherine! Your good guy is out their waiting for you too.

What do you expect when you're cheating in the first place?

How do you expect others to behave when you're behaving badly anyhow?

& you have the cheek to call guys jerks.
