Because looks will only carry you so far. If you are going into modeling, then of course use your looks-that would be your tools of the trade.
But if you're working in an office and you try to get ahead by dressing provacitvely or acting flirtatious, I can tell you right now that you'll be the girl that all the men would like to ****, but no one will take you seriously.
The only way to get ahead in business is to work hard and do your work well. Would you rather people be saying "Wow, she did a great job on that project! We'll have to keep her in mind for better things!" or "Wow! Did you see that pink sweater she wore to work today? Really shows off her boobs."
Quite simply, those who have to rely on their looks to get ahead have to do so because they have nothing else to offer. You don't want to be that way...you're better than that.

There is nothing wrong with capitalizing on your looks to further your career. Pharmaceutical company reps are often hired based on their attractiveness, as the firms know that a pretty face will get in front of the doctors. You'd be silly not to use your natural assets. However, make sure you have a Plan B, because the day will come when the looks fade. Having a marketable skill to fall back on is always a good thing.

What happens when you start to age and you just don't look so good anymore? Sure, you'll retire eventually and probably still look good by then, but when you get to be fifty, society isn't going to fall for the act anymore. What are you going to fall back on then? Success at work should never be about flouncing around, showing off your hair or that cute new outfit you just picked up. You've got skills, and that's what you should be using. Challenge yourself to advance your career without physical appeal--see if you can meet your goals as the person you really are.

EVERYTHING. Unless you're a model or something.
But in other scenarios, it's totally wrong. It's just plain unfair. You should be using your skills to get further in life, not your looks. You're not doing ANYONE a favor by using looks to further a career. Not the employer, and not yourself. Besides, wouldn't you rather be valued for something deeper than appearance?

Nothing at all wrong with it. We live in a society where if you are beautiful in the "media"sense, you will do well. If you could smack a hockey puck you would be calle Wayne (whatzname) and be referred to the 'great one", bounce a basket ball around and put ball through hoop, make millions. Kick around and hurt other people, OJ simpson superstar could run and kill and get away with it, Marilyn Monroe did nothing exceptional, now is a fetish figure, on and on it goes,etc. etc.
Strange isn't it.
If you know how to use what you have, in this society, why not.
P.S. Anna Nicole Smith married v.v.v. well.

i think looks play in work all the time! i think deffinately use it if you got it. but you cant solely rely on your looks. you also have to have experience, or education etc to back your self up. but you can deffenately get a foot in the door for your looks. but lets say 2 people equally qualified for a job, the better looking one will get it. or lets say 2 people are equally qualified for a promotion, unless your boss dislikes you, if your better looking, you'll probably get it. it's a fact, attractive (and taller people usually get the job or get more) it has been done in studies. and usually men that are 6' or more become top dogs. or look at it this way, most ceo's are tall. and white for that matter. also, usually the better looking the salesman or waitress or waiter etc, the better they do. look around, you'll see in some industries or some areas mainly have the good looking people.

It is fine to use your good looks to further your career as long as you don't do it in a sexual way.
using good looks = OK
using sex = bad
People are usually judged by first impressions (i.e. appearance.) By looking great, you'll make a good impression.
Don't dress sexually at work. That will usually hurt your career Women who dress too sexy at work are often considered less intelligent. (The first impression will be that you're a tramp, rather than a career minded woman.)
Dress modestly but attractively. Look great. If you have the brains to back it up... you'll do well.

Using your looks to further your career don't highlight the real you. No one's going to look at your brain power; only how hot you look. Also, in my opinion, if you've got a boyfriend, it's really not cool. Your looks and your "goods" should be more for him to admire and not your boss's. The only way your looks should play a key role in your career is if you're in the modeling profession.

Not a thing if it works for you, just make sure you are capable of doing the work once you get the job. Looks fade and you will need the skills to carry you then...

Not one thing if you have the "brains" to back it up. Nice makeup, coiffed hair, cute but stylish clothes- all good. But "beauty fades and stupid stays" so have something other than "looks" to promote a career. Good luck. :)
