I'm 21 and married and both my husband and have agreed to not have children. I don't want to get too detailed on why.
I have severe PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and it takes a toll on our marriage. Medication has not helped. I would just like to get rid of periods altogether. If I got my uterus removed (which I know is an irreversible option), would my PMDD be a thing of the past? What would happen to my hormone level? Would I be more susceptible to certain types of cancer later on?
Please share any personal experience. Thanks.

I also have endometriosis and a prolapsed uterus that causes me a great deal of pelvic pain.

Your uterus is not the source of your discomfort, your ovaries are. It is entirely possible that an ovariectomy would cure your distress. You need to talk it over with an endocrinologist as well as a gynecologist. If the decision is made to go ahead with surgery, you'll probably be best served with a total hysterectomy in which your uterus and ovaries would be removed. Again, talk it over with the medical people l mentioned - this is not the sort of thing to be decided based on answers garnered on a site like this one.

Getting rid of your uterus, should get rid of the PMDD. As long as you keep your ovaries, there shouldn't be any worries of hormonal imbalances, because they exrete the hormones. If you two are CERTAIN, that children aren't for you, go ahead. Just talk it over a little more with your physician first. After surgery, there's no turning back...Good Luck

Talk to the doctors and see what they recommend. I know some will tell you that you are too young to have the procedures to have your uterus removed. Keep going til you find a doctor who actually listens to you. PM DD is HORRIBLE. And if there is a way for you to live a more normal life, then i think they should give you that option. Good luck! keep us posted.

I never heard of the uterus being removed even in the most extreme cases what you are thinking is the ovariectomy or oophorectomy in which the ovaries are removed.
This type of sugery is a last resort as it causes postmenopausal state. For issues regarding menopause you can ask most women in their 50s what its like.

The women in our family got pms, so bad two of my sisters would miss work for days , behind it!!! But, hun, if your only 21, later you may regret the fact that you got a "Hysterectomy" done, when you were young! Especially the older you get the more "Settled-down" couples have a tendecy to get, and wish they could here the "pitter-patter" of little feet running around, especially when most of your friends will most likely have families, too..... My brother & his wife couldn't have children, and still dont, and they went through so many fazes in their lives wishing they had, and even though about adopting a child at one point.. So, this is really something you cannot foresee, how you will feel in the future, right now. But, later you may change your mind.... When I was your age, I had a 3 year old daughter, and didn't want anymore kids,....Then her father & I split-up, and my new husband wanted alot of kids, and by this time, my oldest daughter was pretty used to being the only child, she was now 6 when I had my oldest son, and it was very hard for her to get used too. And me, I was so used to "Spoiling her" with everything in life, including lots of Love, and all of a sudden I had to share my love with another child, but, I almost got my tubes tied, and was sceduled to do so, with a doctor in town when I met my first husband.. And he asked me to "Please cancel that appointment" and I haven't a single regret that I did so, to this day!! And my oldest daughter is closer with her brother than her father's boys with another woman!! Because their closer in age and she spent more time with my son, than her father's kids!! So, I would definately think about it, for a few more years, you dont want to regret making a desicion such as this and years from now seeing alll of your friends having children wishing you had, you know..Like my brother and his wife..... Smile!!!
