Well, "baller" is an old term. From the mid-90s. I'm an American, and normally wouldn't poke my nose where needn't be, but since it's an American pop-culture colloquial term, invented by our society, I will give the complimentry heads-up that the term is out of date. Even it's succesor, "player" or "player-hater" are making their way out of the current hip-hop lingo.
Yes, you will find these references in mainstream media and entertainment, but as always, their usage is an example of the old white people in the entertainment business just now catching on to it-typically years later; but even by that standard "baller" is old, and much more appropriately, lame.
What is said now? Well, it's complicated. We (African Americans) use many congenial terms that are used based on intimate details understood by the parties involved. In music, the genralization of terms like "baller" are being played day due to the change of socio-economical status currently held by successful artist and rappers in the industry. It was never intended for whites to use here, and it's ten times worse hearing foreigners front it. The answer above, about being a baller by not being one is the best sentiment. Follow that and your own path and you'll be cool as school.
