Do you mean Accutane?

I took Accutane for about 6 months when I was 16 and it worked wonders on my acne. The side effects however were awful. I seriously had like a mental breakdown from it. People have even gone as far as committing suicide on the medication. It is VERY powerful.

It depends on what type of pill it is. For example, if it's antibiotics you may have to take them for a few days before you start to feel better. If it is a hormone, such as a birth control pill, it may not be effective for several weeks. Analgesics may help in 15 to 20 minutes.
