The location needs to be licenced and I would be surprised if there are any beaches in the UK licenced for Wedding or there may be such a thing as a special licence? I would start off by asking about the legal side of it at your local registry office. Good luck with the wedding!

If not on an actual beach you may find a hotel overlooking a beach which has a licence (always a good backup!).

Hi there,

I'm sure you've read the other posts regarding beach weddings and now know that you can't in England, but may be able to North of the Border. With regards where to start, once you've chosen your 'beach' in Scotland or venue in England/Wales then its much the same as any other wedding.

For ideas on how to theme a beach wedding, check out the attached link - the site itself is also a pretty useful place to start when planning a wedding in general.

Hope this helps.

you do not need a licenced premises but do need a proper registrar,i no this as my cousin got married on bournmouth beach july last year.its not very private, she had a closed of bit its wether the people respect this though and do stay away.my advice would be go to a registry office ie bournmouth or even weston super mare if you want ask they will give you the advice and what you need to no,if all fails find a hotel by the beach you would like to marry and go from there maybe hold the wedding in hotel and do the beach thing after,i do not no where you live but bournmouth is one of the best beaches voted in england.good luck.x

It really is true that you can't get married on a beach in the UK, that includes Scotland!!!!

You can however, do your "legally binding bit" at the registry office or licensed venue, and then have someone from the humanist society come and officiate at the beach ceremony. The Humanist society would send someone out to go through your vows again with you on the beach, but as it is not legally binding you need to do that bit first. If you type "Humanist Society" in to google you will find their website.

I thought that in the UK you had to be married in a licenced premises - which means there probably isn't a beach where you could legally get married.

Wedding planners who work in seaside towns may know the answer, or check with a registry office in any seaside town - they can at least tell you what the legal standpoint is and therefore if it's an idea worth pursuing.

I am Scottish but as far as I am aware in Britain this is not allowed as venues must have a definite licence to enable them to carry out weddings, hence only certain hotels have wedding ceremonies. Why I feel pretty confident I am correct is someone I know tried to be married in a certan park that meant a great deal to them. They tried and tried but were unable to wed there. I think you should speak with your local Registrar and if he/she is unsure ask them to direct you to someone who will know. Sorry I can't be more positive. All the very best for the future.

Why not come to Scotland. My friends got married 7 years ago on the beach near Dunbar. It was wonderful. First step is to register your marriage at at local authority then go and see a minister.Dead easy. I'll organise it for you. Cost you though.
Don't listen to those others , no idea what they're talking about. You get married where you want in Scotland as long as you have permission. So there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why not a scottish beach - there are plenty.

North of scotland has some fabulous beaches - and the scenery is fantastic.

Contact the local Tourist Information or the local church of the town you want to get married.

Good luck :-)

first things first, u need 2 check with the local registry office that a wedding on the beach is allowed & covered by the office.
pick a beach then approach the nearest registry office & ask.

You can't.

Marriages in the England must take place in a building licensed for the purpose. As a beach isn't a building it can't be licensed.

Sorry.

You could have a 'legal' bit somewhere else and then have a humanist/handfasting type ceremony on the beach.
