I agree with Cedar s opionion. Anorexics do develop a downy hair all over and this is due to the loss of the fatty layer the body requires to maintain heat and insulation. The body, when pushed to extremes, such as in the the case of being extremely underweight, will develop coping mechanisms. The bodies main purpose is to survive - it can only do this by maintaining body temperature, blood supply and healthy organs. Having downy hair is a outward symptom that the body has been pushed too far and is developing more extreme methods to keep the body well. If you get cold you get goosebumps to erect the hair and to vasoconstrict (the veins get tight and small to preserve heat) so that air is trapped to keep you warm. Downy hair is a sign that the body is permenantly fighting this. The inward symptoms are far more dangerous. e.g cardiac damage, oesteoporosis and complete cardiovascular shutdown. So either way - the development of hair is a sign that things are certainly not going in the direction of maintaining a healthy happy, functioning body.

Anorexia finally leads to a cut back in estrogen production by utilising women people - lots of a woman's estrogen is produced in physique fat and whem physique fat drops decrease than approximately 6 or 7%, then a woman can now no longer ovulate. This greater finally leads to a cessation or irregularity of menstrual bypass. as quickly as physique fat turns into healthful returned (for a woman 10-15% is the two healthful and eye-catching) then ovulation will start up returned and fertility will resume. as quickly as a woman achieves an exceptionally low physique fat point, analyze have shown that she is often in risk for having a low-beginning weight toddler - that would reason long term issues for the youngster. There ARE long-term sequelae of anorexia, yet infertility isn't one among them.

i have never heard that claim nor seen any evidence that can support that. Hair requires protein and anorexia depleats your body of the nutrietion you need to sustain a healthy life.

in fact people with anorexia often have either brittle thin hair or are loosing hair.

other effects include
Hair loss
Lowered resistance to illness
Hypersensitivity to heat
Less need for sleep than normal eaters
Severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure
Fatigue and overall weakness

Body fat is insulation - keeps your body warm. You lose it and your body tries to replace it with the hair, which traps air between it and your skin, which warms up and acts as a buffer between the skin and cold air outside.
This can happen to swimmers, too. Along with an extra weird layer of body fat, sometimes bodies react to all the time in the cold (heat-sapping) water by growing more hair.
Hope that helps!

becuase hair is a protective layer/cell to protect the skin. So the person is getting thinner & thinner & also prob more fragile. When they get injured they dont have as much protection like most of us do in our bodies which is why they probably have more hair
