Atomism as I understand it is the idea that we're all made of building blocks, and that in their smallest states they are changeable but not destructible, so they are constantly recycled into other matter. Does this get taught anywhere today in any form as a religion or pseudo-religion? Basically is the idea still alive today?

Some Indian (Asian Indian, not Native American) religions got into the matter is made of building blocks but I can't say whether or not is still forms a key part of their theology.

The problem with the science of atomism is that the indivisible nature of the basic building block has gone out the window. Every time we think we have gotten to a basic building block we find that it is itself composed of smaller building blocks. For example atoms were found to be made of protons, neutrons, and electrons; protons were found to be made of quarks; quarks may be made of strings. In addition, Einstein showed matter could be converted to energy and vice versa so the destructability of the building blocks went out the window as well.
