Directly from Tiger's mouth:

Q. Dear Tiger: I was just wondering why you tape your finger on your right hand?
Scott Arnold , Westchester

A. I tape my finger because I have a callous on my hand.

Daren's answer is correct. Was a question poised in Golf Digest.

Sticky fingers
I notice you put white tape on the middle finger of your right hand. How come?

I've got a callus there that's unreal. During the summer, in the hot and humid weather, it just tears apart. The tape protects it.

Mostly likely (without asking him) it is to prevent a blister and / or has to do with grip... there is even the remote chance the tape could be part of some superstition... He is known to be very superstisious (only wears red on Sunday / final round...)

You could also go to Tiger's website and join the forum and ask. You might just get him to answer your question himself...

I think it might cover his ring, not sure though.

Because he has a big callus there.
