I have anxiety and the doctor put me on xanax for my nerves.i am only taking a half of .5 a day he said i could take more if i needed but i dont want to become addicted so i was taking only that amount. i have only been taking it for 3 days but prior to this I had developed a tingling in my right fingers Its mainly my pointer finger on my right hand and my left foot tingle. It doesn't do it anytime during the day usually. Only whenever I first wake up. I know your going to say I am laying on them wrong but I dont. I lay flat on my back and do not twist my feet or legs.I'm kinda unsure of why my right fingers and left foot tingles. I woke up about an hour ago my foot has stopped tingling but my right fingers are still feeling like pins and needles. any info from any personal experiences or anything would be great.Thanks.

There are problems a lot less dire than "advanced diabetes" that can cause pins-and-needles!
Also, normally, when ceasing a course of any psychotropic medication, you don't just stop taking it abruptly. You have to taper off gradually: preferably with some medical supervision.
However, you've only been taking a low dose for 3 days. You have to give the stuff a chance to work. Don't worry about "addiction," it's not addictive. Take the recommended dose for a good six weeks or so. Then, if you decide to change or stop meds, do so gradually.
Here's one idea about the pins & needles. It could be a circulation problem, exp. since it's bilateral. Do you smoke? If so, stop. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor: i.e., it'll squeeze shut the capillaries in your extremities, which starves the nerves for oxygen; that causes the weird sensation.

You have probably just slept in an awkward position. All your body weight rested on your arm and might of cut off circulation causing cramp.I had the same thing and I was really scared and the whole motor in my hand wouldn't work but I tried some thing and it went away. Try a sling maybe, frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel, warm cloth or putting them in nice warm water with some bubble bath in and watch a nice film and eat some nibbles or a milkshake. Prop it up on a pillow and keep bathing it in hot water. Make sure the skin is aired off and wear cosy clothes without tight sleeves and no gloves. You can get hand warmers to hold as well. Maybe try massaging them even with something like Vaseline ect. If they don't start to feel that better maybe a trip to the doctors. Try to avoid typing or writing ect and let the fingers stretch out and relax. A hand bandage might be good/ sling...That is what I did then slowly used it again.

It doesn't matter which toes or foot are tingling.
It sounds like an advanced symptom of Diabetes. Are you diabetic or have you been tested?
I would stop the Xanax. Read the side effect page you got from your Pharmacist and see if these are symptoms of side effects. If you cannot find the page he or she gave you call the Pharmacy and talk to he or she. Explain the problem and ask if this is a side effect.
Pills rarely solve emotional and nerve problems . Find the cause and solve it.

well i started waking up with tingling and sometimes numbness in my right arm the doctors said that it was in connection with the carpel tunnel i have and sometimes if im wearing my class ring and im using a mouse then my fingers will go numb. all it took for the docs to ascertain my condition was an MRI followed up by an EEG but that was mostly cos they didn't think i could have carpel tunnel mostly cos i was fifteen at the time but that's just my experience someone with a med degree would be better for the asking

Sounds like nerves in your neck are getting pressure from slight misalignment. The other possibility is neuropathy. Are you diabetic?
BTW, get off that Xanax and get this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-Handbook-David-Burns/dp/0452281326
It's far more effective at CURING anxiety, whereas the Xanax will never, ever cure you of anything other than personal wealth, perhaps.
