lol. the jackhammer would win if we were going for the biggest most worthless woofer. when you look at the specs on it, you realize all thats special about it is the size. its not the loudest woofer out, nor is it the best sounding.

ok there are 2 types of woofers. when most people want the "best" woofer they are generally talking about SPL, or Sound Pressure Level. if this is the case for you then one would think that the "best" woofer would be the one that wins national comps, and sets world records. the Pioneer Premier 5000SPL has done so. they hit over 180 db, with 13 woofers. 13 woofers may seem like a ton, but kicker had over 70 solo x's and couldnt get to 180 db. so the solo x is not the right answer. sinse taking the world record, Pioneer has redone the woofer. it is now called a TS-W5102SPL, and can handle more power. it is the best SPL woofer money can buy. the Jackhammer, Solo x, w7, XXX, or any other woofer for that matter, holds any record over 180 db.

the other kind of woofer is SQ, or Sounds Quality. this is based on personal opinion. and personally i think the best is a Boston Acousitcs g5. clearest sound from a car audio woofer i have ever heard, and most definatly worth checking out if your looking for a SQ subwoofer.

good luck, and i hope this helps.

There is no substitute for size. A 12in woofer will beat an 8in one any time. But a good encolosure is also very important. For brand of woofer, I would go for Kef.

mtx jackhammer
JackHammer is a beast. It’s a 22″ subwoofer. Available in two version, the T9922-44 and T9922-22. They both share almost same design, but the first uses dual 4 Ohm while latter uses dual 2 Ohm.

MTX Audio claims this JackHammer as a mind-blowig subwoofer ever created. It has 23″ tall and 369 pounds weight (167.38 Kg, if you are not familiar with pounds). It’s capable to handle 12.000 Watt peak music and rated about 6.000 Watts RMS (3.000-6.000 RMS amplifier recommended).

The linear excursion is up to 2.5″ (6.35 cm). Not so far, but remember this is a 22″ subwoofer means very wide cone area. The magnet’s weight is about 900 ounce (25,5 Kg!) and made from strontium ferrite. JackThunder uses 6.5″ voice coil with flat wound. Aluminium heatsink also provided to maintain optimum voice coil temperature.

For SQ, TC Sounds have AWESOME priced, VERY high quality subs. 200wrms 12" for $105.
For SPL, Kicker. Kicker holds more records than ANY other brand. In fact, 75% of all world SPL records were won with Kicker.

Box design makes or breaks a sub. You can put a crap sub in a great box and it'll STOMP a bad*ss sub in a crap box.

It depends also on how much power you're gonna have. 500wrms, I wouldn't spend too much on subs.

Good Luck!

No jokes about noisy dogs yet? I am disappointed. I've heard that long-throw woofers are quite good.

There is no such thing as the best subwoofer. Every subwoofer will have advantages and disadvantages.

And to the person who says any 12" will sound better than any 8" ... is just dead wrong.
