I just got a tattoo on Thursday. As of right now, I have had no scabbing. How long am I supposed to keep applying the Goo? They told me to apply it until it started to scab or until the skin felt dry. I have been using Aquaphor (what I was told to use) and I have had nothing. Should I keep applying for a few more days or can I just use lotion? Do they always scab? Are they supposed to scab?
Thanks.

feet take longer to heal and generally longer to scab. but it's not a typical scab like you may be thinking. it won't be thick or hard or crusty. next time you get out of the shower, don't apply anything to it for about 20 minutes. then feel it compared to the rest of your skin. it should be a little raised and rough maybe wrinkly. that is the scab. good luck!

None of mine scabbed. Goo? hmmmm....
This is what I go by:
Fresh Tattoo
Take bandage off in 2 hours
Wash tattoo carefully with warm soapy water
DO NOT SCRUB
Lightly pat the tattoo until dry…
DO NOT RUB
Apply a very thin coat of bacitracin or aquaphor ointment 3 times a day for 3 to 5 days
Although re-bandaging a tattoo is not recommended, if covering the tattoo is necessary a sterile bandage or dressing should be used.
Be sure and wash the tattoo every night and morning…
DO NOT SOAK
Avoid tattoo exposure to direct sunlight and refrain from swimming in fresh, salt or chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks.
After External Healing
Tattoos heal quickly BUT fading can still be a problem
Apply hand lotion once a day until dryness stops
Vaseline Intensive Care, Lubriderm, Nivea, etc...
Tanning fades tattoos
Always cover fully healed tattoo with sun block
DO NOT RUIN YOUR INVESTMENT!!!

If the design is small, or if it has thin lines, it may not scab at all. I'd keep applying the Aquaphor until Thursday - after that I'd move to an unscented lotion that has sunscreen in it.

No, they don't ALWAYS scab, especially if the studio you went to practices covering the fresh tattoo with ceran wrap as opposed to paper towel/gauze. (My studio said that studies have shown that the ceran tricks the body into thinking that the area has already scabbed. My big Celtic cross piece between my shoulders never scabbed and neither did my newer piece.)It sounds like you have been taking perfect care of your new inkage! Only apply the goo if it looks a little ashy-just like you would any other body part that looked dry. :D
Enjoy your art!
Came back to comment cuz I saw the pic-OMG! That is so cute! Can I borrow your idea?

keep applying the aquaphor for a few more days. mine barely scabbed, but it did, and eventually yours will.
patience....you should be all set to stop in the next week or so..then just lotion.

It pretty much always will scab, and sometimes itch. But as stated before, if it has thin lines/designes it may not scab in those areas.
Just follow the directions your artist gave you.
