Someone told me yesterday that the top and bottom three centimetres of a carrot contain carcinogenic toxins. Anyone know if this is true, as I eat loads of them - thanks!

No, but you might be able to convince your parents so you don't have to eat them!

Is that why all the rabbits are dieing?

Carcinogens are cancer causing substances. Carrots will no more cause cancer than lettuce or apples! If they have been sprayed with pesticides maybe but if you thoroughly wash them first (like I don't) yo'll be OK. If your carrot grows from the top down, why would only the middle NOT contain carcinogens if any of it did? So that means that you would have to throw away all carrots less than 7cm long and only eat 1 - 3 cm.... whover told you that yarn is a scaremonger.

no, they are misinformed or I would be dead by now. I juice two pounds of carrots a day. The tops (leafy part contain some toxins, but not the actual carrot. If you trim off the stem, you are good to go. I nibble on carrots all day long with homemade hummus, in addition to juicing them.. I should have been born a rabbit!

I may be unable to answer your question because I really don't know what you mean by "jain People", but I do know that certain foods have cancer fighting chemicals in them. IF you do not eat a lot of these foods, I suppose that someone may be prone to get Cancer easier then those who include these certain foods in their diet. Almost everything appears to give you Cancer these days so your overall environment should be taken into consideration as well. Asbestos, gas fumes, inhaling chemicals on a daily basis, exposure to harmful sun rays, all play a part in some kind of Cancer. Precaution is the key, as well as a good diet of nutritional and cancer fighting foods.

No, though they may be sprayed with carcinogenic pesticides. Organic is best if you are worried about contaminants and it's best for the environment too.

This goes for any food, not just carrots.

No not true, all parts of a carrot are edible. They should be peeled though (not just washed) because of possible pesticide residue
