My Future Mother-In-Law has given me a list of people that she only wants me to send an announcement and not an invitation. She doesn't want the recipients to think we are asking for presents only to send a notice that we are getting married. Where can I get information on either where to buy an announcement card or what to put on the announcement?

This is not rude or even uncommon. The invitation you send 5 to 8 weeks in advance and it is just that an invitation to attend the wedding.

An announcement is to be put in the mail the morning of the wedding. This is for out of town people who you know will not be able to attend or to Old Family friends or People you haven't seen in years. You don't want them to think you just want gifts. It is merely an announcement that you did get married and most of the time they do go to friends of the parents that maybe knew you when you were small and the parents would like for them to know that their son or daughter has wed and show how proud or joyful they are.

You can print your own announcement or go to any invitation website also for examples on what they should say. But They are not to be mailed until the day of the wedding.

This is also a way to help control the reception budget.

I agree with Vix. If you are going to send a wedding announcement only and not invite them, i would wait until AFTER you are married with a nice picture just saying "WE GOT MARRIED!" Other wise it seems rude to let them know the date and time if they are not invited to come.

wedding anouncements are usually sent after the fact. One would be such as..

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hughes
announce the marriage
of their daughter
Jennifer Cathryn
to
Jason Fredrick Capp
on Saturday, the fourth of August
Two Thousand and One
St. Paul's Church
Springfield, Illinois

I'm sorry, but that sounds very rude. Why in the world would you write someone to say "We're getting married, and you're not invited?"

This sounds like an outdated custom that is no longer appropriate...

Why are you listening to your mother-in-law? It's your wedding, do what you want.
