"Adam's apple" is not a bone;it is cartilage/s,jointed in the larynx.Because of many muscles,the larynx is mobile.It is nessessary for closing air ways when swallow.

Adam's apple: A familiar anatomic feature in the front of the neck that is due to the forward protrusion of the thyroid cartilage, the largest and most prominent cartilage of the larynx.
Thyroid gland covers it as a soft part.

I think you're talking about your hyoid bone, you might also be talking about the rings of cartilage that surround your voice box in your trachea.
