Can a Canadian citizen just cross the border and hang out for as long as they want, provided they keep renewing their visa?

When they stamp your passport with a B2 visitors stamp- legally you are allowed to stay in the US for 180 days in a year time frame. You may need to prove ties to Canada if you are going for an extended period of time- letter from employer, bank statements, rent or mortgage payments, etc. Things that prove you are intending to return back to Canada when your B2 expires.

Not really. Canadians are allowed into the US for up to six months without a visa. Chances are, if you tell someone at the border you're staying that long though, they're going to want you to demonstrate some ties back to Canada-a lease or mortgage, a job, etc. If a Canadian wants to stay in the US longer than that, and work or study, then an appropriate visa is required

the problem with liberals is only that they understand a lot that isn't so. The Liberal ideology is a theory , fostered by technique of a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that haven't any foundation truthfully. Criminals do not pay any interest to regulations... If guns were ever banned than purely the undesirable men could have them..Criminals desire unarmed victims!! Having a gun received't help each and each of the time yet being defenseless won't ever help.. at the same time as seconds count number number calling 911 and asking the undesirable guy to attend isn't a achievable option. extra valuable to have a gun and not opt for it than to opt for it and not have it!!! **Police do no longer take care of you from crime, they many times only look into the crime after it takes position.** @

The laws just recently changed.
Now a passport is required.

Used to be you just had to answer a bunch of questions, showing documents of ability to support self, applicable car insurance, and acceptable ID, only if planning to stay a length of time. Wonder what it is like now?
