Any dog is okay left alone for 6 - 8 hours MAX.

Are you planning on getting a puppy or an adult? If you get a puppy you would have to have someone come during lunch to take him/her out. With puppies they can only hold their bladder 3-4 hours at a time. If you have an adult, they should be fine for that long until you get home.

Here is my Pekes day:
- Gets up and goes outside around 5:30 AM
- Eats his breakfast (1/2 can of wet food/dry food and water left out all day)
- We leave around 7 and we block off the kitchen with a baby gate and he is in there with his dry food/water/toys/blanket until 3PM. So I guess thats about 8 hours.
- Before I even take off my coat when I get home, I take him outside.

And then he just barks whenever he has to go outside again. He is the first dog I've EVER owned and I just love him! He loves to lay on his back with all fours up in the air. If you get a male, I suggest neutering them between 6-8 months or you'll have him marking in the house! Sometimes Gizmo (my peke) marks in the house, but not often. I've never met a female Peke but I am sure they are even more loving!

As for grooming theres alot. We brush him about 2 times a week. Watch for matts behind the ears! And we take him to a groomer about once every 3 months? I think. Once his hair gets too long thats when I take him. To petsmart for about 50$. They do nails, haircut, ears and a bath. I keep his coat in a short puppy cut.

For food I feed him Mighty Dog (in the can). I take one can, cut the food in half and he eats half in the morning and half at night. (6AM & 5PM). I keep a little dry food out all day just incase he gets a little hungry, and also water out all day for him.

I never Crate trained my Peke because we have a mediumish sized kitchen (which is tiled) and just put a baby gate up by the entrance. He does fine in there with his toys and blanket. When he was a puppy my Grandpa would come during lunch to take him out (we used to have a cage in there when he was a pup so he wouldnt pee in the kitchen). sometimes my grandpa would stay and take him out and play and sometimes he would be home when I came home from school! So if you have someone that can come during lunch .. or if you live close that would be awsome!

I think I've covered everything. There are alot of Pekes that are in shelters today. You can still get a puppy (6-9months) that is ALREADY POTTY TRAINED at a shelter! A pup that is potty trained?! That right there is amazing to me LOL.

You can go to Petfinder ^^ and search in your state for some pekes! The ones in that link are in NJ (cause thats where I am) but just go to the left and change the state to find some in your area.

Or also, try googling some breeders if you really want a pup. or "Pekingnese Rescue in (your state)"

Oh, and here is a couple pics of my 6 year old male Pekingnese Gizmo! :]]]

I have a male Boxer who has very bad allergies. He's is all season lengthy. My vet prescribe him some hypersensitivity medication and it labored wonders. After taking the $30 bottle for months my Vet subsequently instructed me I would simply supply him a entire benadryl twice a day, once in the morning and once at night time. This has the equal effect at a fraction of the fee. I'd advocate supplying you with pekingese just a half of of one as soon as a day starting out. For those who see his condition is getting better however he is still having issues up it to 1/2 of one twice a day. I will accept as true with other below. You should find out your Vets reasoning for no longer prescribing him any meds and if he doesnt have a excellent cause in finding an extra Vet. Pekes are the BEST!!!! we own three pekes and one boston TERROR :) we have a black one, a white one and a sable/brown one.

they love to play in a yard - as they get older they have a bit of trouble jumping on high furniture or beds -

much of the first answerers responses are thing that i would have said, so i dont really have that much more to say -

we keeps ours trimmed, but still have to brush them -

one extra thing, pekes are known as the "LIons" because of their fearless nature. they truly DO NOT UNDERSTAND that big mean dogs could EAT them - they are fiercly loyal, and will show displeasure of people that they do not like after their departure -

pekes are house dogs and are fine all day in the house - be ready to a jumping playful puppy when you get home though!
