The reason I get ulcers is when I'm down or stressed. Is your mum feeling sad or under stress?

The most common type of mouth ulcers are called 'apthous' ulcers. They are probably viral. (though no virus has been identified.)This means they should not be given antibiotics as there have no effect. There behaviour is similar to cold sores, in that they are recurrent, come out when we are run down and we never seem to develop immunity. Here the similarity ends, because unlike herpetic cold sores there is no treatment.
Each ulcer lasts about 10 days, but you can get further crops erupting, so each episode may last longer than that.
Ice,ice cream and cold soft items, become the easiest things to eat. Teething gels sometimes help. There are 2 prescription drugs for apthous ulcers, Corlan Pellets and Adcortyl in Orobase paste. Both are steroids, only reduce the nipping a bit and neither hastens resolution.

Hi it doesnt sound like mouth ulcers its sounds like thrush as you dont normally get mouth ulcers on your tongue but on the inside of the mouth or on the gums. So unless her tongue is just red from the amount of bonjela she is using or the corsodyl. I would let her try anbesol and oraldene.. Salt water and bonjela doesnt work at all. She needs something to numb the pain which anbesol adult strenght and oraldene does. I get them alot and only this works. Has she also tryed aloclair spray/ mouth wash she can spray this on her tongue.
If it is oral thrush then the oraldene is for this also. Tell her not to use too much bonjela as it can upset the stomach.
If you go to the chemist or now and get her some oraldene which she uses 3 times a day and then get some anbesol adults strength for her to apply inbetween rinses with mouth wash. Also get some aloclair injust in case you need it. Anbesol doesnt sting like bonjela and it numbs the pain so her mouth might go a little numb but she wont feel the ain no more. its 100 times better than bonjela. I hate that stuff it just stings more so you dont feel the ulcer pain.

I'm going to suggest a lot of different things but as I read on, I notice that you are already using these things/methods. I suspect that your mum has a deficiency of certain vitamins. I have a vague idea that mouth ulcers are to do with deficiency of B complex but of course, I am not that sure. Why not go and see a nutritionist and ask for advice? Meanwhile, try taking some multi-vitamins or B-complex and see if that helps.

I suffered for years and got enormous blood blisters on my tongue. I also had lots of colds. Since taking a zinc supplement I hardly ever get an ulcer and have not had a commom cold for many years. The only medication that helped was that stuff you paint on, which stings like the dickens!

Hopefully, she's used the antibiotics 'til they're completely gone for the entire duration of the perscription. To not do so frequently produces a resistant form of the pathogin. A different antibiotic may be needed.
It's time for her to be more assertive with her doctor and insist on getting to the cause of the problem and a more aggressive form of treatment. She should have a complete physical workup.

Try dabbing on Tincture of Myrrh. It is a very good remedy for mouth ulcers. It can be bought from health food shops or on line from www.nealsyardremedies.com
Your mum might also want to consider upping her vitamin B12 intake with an occasional slice of marmite on toast or a beef tea drink.
