This weekend I got a seatbelt ticket for "improperly wearing" my seatbelt. I had it clicked in and had my left arm over the belt instead of over my shoulder like you're "supposed" to. I was aware it was recomended to wear it over your shoulder i just didnt't think it was illegal. What ever happened to warnings? Especially when it is a first time offence! Whats the difference, I mean older cars and school buses don't even have the shoulder belt. Anyone ever heard of a BS ticket like this? Anyway to fight it, because $247.00 is a little much for this ticket I think. I am in Canada

It is your duty as a driver to know the rules of the road. It is the duty of the officer enforce the rules of the road. There are not any recommendations on "how to wear" your safety There are clear and concise ways to wear your safety belt clearly for measures that keep you safe while driving, and keep you safe if you were to be in an accident.
Personally I don't think older vehicles should be allowed on the road without modifications made to ensure proper safety belts are in place. And lets not even go there about the buses that transport our children.
Safety belts save lives, sorry I am not giving you the answer that you want here.

that does seem ridiculous.
But as far as fighting it - I don't know about where you are, but where I live, if you fight a ticket and LOSE, they tack on a whole bunch of court costs which in effect makes the fine double or more. So it really makes it risky to fight.

When you took the exam for your driver's licence, did you read the book first? The one that tells you the laws that you are supposed to follow when you are driving your car? Just because you think it's stupid, doesn't make it right to disobey the law. It's the police officer's job to keep you and others safe, so stop making their jobs harder.

I agree, that is way over the top. But you live in Canada, so I suppose it is not surprising. Your nanny state is worse than ours, but we are trying to catch up. Fight it. If it makes your local paper, send a tip to the Drudge Report. If he links it, the local government will look so stupid that they might drop the charges after being buried in negative comments..

The law is the law! Obey the law or pay the price!
A shoulder harness seatbelt will not protect you if you fail to use it properly.

This is the nanny state the liberals are trying to institute in the US. According to these people, they know what is best for you long before you do.

So you're one of those people who doesn't like the law or rule and decides you're going to be a smart asss and follow the rule half-way and dare the authorities to call you on it.
I guess you lost that fight didn't you? You're such a rebel! :-(

My sister got this same ticket. It is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Why don't they go bother the people committing actual crimes. I still wear my seatbelt like this.
