To me, they seem impractical, clumsy, and expensive.

What are your thoughts?

And if you drive one are you married, single, male, or female?

Some people like being up higher. They feel more in control and like to be able to see from that vantage point.

We have one that my wife drives. It's a small SUV, the Hyundai Sante Fe 4WD. Personally I don't like driving it. It feels big and clumsy to me. My car is the 07 Honda Fit which is TINY in comparison and it feels so much more light and agile. I have driven the SUV to work on a few days where the weather was bad and we had alot of snow and Ice and it was nice to have a bigger car with 4wd in that situation.
We also have a dog and a new baby and if we take any trips, we need a bigger car to haul all of the gear that we have for us , the dog, and the baby.
It wasn't expensive, we picked it up when it was used but only one year old, and we got it for about 17k... which was the same price as my Honda after taxes and all that. The only thing is that the SUV gets 20mpg and my Honda gets 35!

I drive a Chevy suburban. I am married, and male, I am very tall and have severe back problems. When I tried to switch to a smaller car for economy, it caused more excruciating pain for me to stoop down into and climb up out of it. With the suburban, I can slide right onto the seat without problems. It also has extra bolsters and lumbar support that the smaller car did not. I find it handy for the kids, dogs, and hauling duties also. We take 14 day vacations twice a year, and it helps to have the cargo space for all of the luggage/gear/souviners also. We find it very versatile. I will agree that it is a gas hog though. We get about 18mpg on the highway and 16 city.

Well I like to drive my moms SUV, Im a 16 y/o male. I feel a sense of security when I am on the road. Its an AWD Ford Explorer so it is top of the line. The only thing I dont like about it is the gas milage. But The reason I drive it is mostly the sense of security it gives you. and Yes it is expensive to drive but it is a very nice ride when traveling.

People like to drive SUVs (Simply Unneccesary Vehicles) because they are insecure and want everyone else to think they are successful. This is also the reason that the wimpiest and least attractive guys drive the biggest and fanciest pick ups.

They feel safer in a larger car, and they want to show you that they don't have to worry about such trivial things as burning money.

"Look at me! I can use more energy in five minutes, than your whole family uses in a week! You know I'm well to do"

Nothing says you're well-off like spending lavishly at the gas pump.
