I agree completely, the people that believe animals have no souls either believe they are superior to animals, or that they themselves have no souls, I believe i was an animal in many incarnations, so i sympathize with the animals. People that believe animals have no souls are the same people that beat thier dog to death, poison them, or starve them.

ANimals cannot help the way the Gods made them, its not fair to judge them because they dont use the same vocal cords as humans. I hear dolphins are smarter than most humans anyways.

How do I know ? I don't know, after all we're all animals. Animals are living things that are not of the plant group. Next we are mannals. Animals that suckle their young. Breaking it down still farther, we are primates. Flexible finger group.
The only reason that we have souls is because some very superstitious person back in primitive times imagined that we have. You can be sure that if we have souls, the animals do also.
The big difference between us and the other animals is that they have the intelligence to use the earth for their own purposes, and leave it in the same condition for the next generation. Humans do not have that intelligence. We are the destroyers.

I know that higher animals have emotions for two reasons. First, they exhibit behaviours that we can recognize as having emotional weight. Second, they have the brain structures which are the source of emotions in humans, and therefore (since all mammalian brains are built to the same basic pattern) it stands to reason that those structures are also producing emotions in animals.

As for a soul... that's a more difficult question. In the religion I follow, we believe that all living things are infused with Divine energy and are part of a larger web of interconnecting forces. Animals have as much of a spirit as humans do, even though their brains might not support higher levels of cognitive processing. Therefore I would have to say that if humans have a soul, animals do to.

I think they do have soul and emotion. The emotion part, I surmise from a ton of contact with them. I've rasied dogs, cats, sheep, horses, llamas. You cannot tell me they have no emotion and a whole lot more, like loyalty, sense of humor. I had one lamb and one ewe who thought I was a riot and loved to play tricks on me.

Your elephant example is a good one, too. When one dies, the others in its group or family approach it and touch it with their trunk, then leave. It's a kind of funeral.

Personal experience aside, I am a Christian and the Bible contains many verses on the subject, though lots of Christians don't accept them. One of my favorites is Revelation 5:13. I don't think you're a Chrisitan, so I hope you will forgive me if I quote:

"And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
'Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!'"

What a glorious sound!

I'm confused, are you questioning whether some humans have souls or are you still talking about animals?

You've answered your own question about the animals "they do display similar behaviours as humans" ... see? similar but not exactly. Yes, they have feelings, fear and happiness, anger and contentment, all these things help them to continue to live, it's built into their system. But they cannot go against their biology, their very nature. They are animals, all of them, at heart. They have no soul.

They are capable of devotion, of loyalty, of trust, etc. But they are not capable of love, in the same way we are. Those are all aspects of love, but it is not love itself. Only a human can love, not an animal.

Animals have soul which is the will, mind and emotions. Animals do not have spirit because God only breathed His Spirit into Adam when Adam was created. So human beings have spirit and also higher ability and intelligence as they are made in the image and likeness of God.

cats have their own language, so do all other animals, humans included, humans speak different languages, I can understand a Dutch person no better than i can understand a Lion.
we all animals, humans, have eyes , ears, lungs etc, we all hurt and we all take pleasure in things, so I am 100% sure animals are exactly as we are.
