I highlight 3 cells only with the mouse & then click on the double headed arrow in th left margin but the whole row is altered instead. I just cannot get past this problem - it's doing my head in - Help!!

You could take 6 cells and then merge them as pairs but otherwise you will alter the whole row, To do this highlight the cells you wish to merge and then enter the properties and tick the merge cells box.

You can only strech the whole collomn or height. The way you can get around this is merging cells together.

I don't think you can. I think you have to alter a whole row or a whole column in excel.

If you want to do a table with different size cells you could try using word instead.

You can't. But you can fake it by merging all three cells.

Select the three cells, and the three immediately below them. Then MERGE them. You can then stretch those three without affecting the rest on the subject line.

select the cells you want canging, and then merge the cells (for all three)
