How could anyone leave a cookie out long enough to even ask this question...?! I love cookies. I would say cover them with plastic wrap for up to 2 days, and in a plastic container for 4 days. But after that, feed 'em to the dog.

Depending on what the temperature and the humidity is where the cookie is located, I would say it's about a day before it's really inedible (stale and hard). An oreo or similar sandwich cookie could probably be good a little while longer but I've never known an oreo to last long on a counter without being eaten. Basically, the cookie won't spoil - it will get hard and not taste as good.

It depends on the cookie and the tolerance of the person who is going to eat it.

If the cookie is made with butter and eggs, it will probably spoil in a few days.

I'd probably spit out a cookie that had been sitting uncovered for 1 day, but other people will find a cookie on the floor after it's been there for who knows how long and think nothing of eating it.

Most cookies will simply go dry and hard before becoming dangerous to eat. Unless there's something strange in the cookie, you could easily eat it weeks later, but I don't think it would taste very good.

Of course, you may have to fight the mice for the cookie if you leave it out.

It depends what kind of cookie it is and how dry or moist the air in your house is.

For instance biscotti could last for days and days.

A cookie will keep indefinitely. It is the near perfect keeping food. My dog discovered one behind the couch and especially admired the crunch. He licked his chops for more.
