Sleep Paralysis

2007-03-26 02:17:49 · answer #1 · answered by Wowwie 3 · 2 0

I've felt paralyzed a few times when I woke up, sometimes it left as soon as I realized it, but other times I had to consciously make a part of my body move and then it dissipated. Then I saw it mentioned on a medical questionnaire for sleep apnea and asked about it. The dr. said that we are paralyzed while in REM sleep and usually go through stages to wake up, but once in a while, you may wake up directly from REM sleep and feel paralyzed. Hope that helps.

It's called sleep paralysis...your body paralyzes you during your dream stage of sleep so you do not act out your dreams (sleep walking occurs during a different stage of sleep) and sometimes your body wakes up and doesn't realize that it's awake so you're still paralyzed this happens to me a lot when I change my sleeping patterns too much...I agree it's pretty scary especially since you can only blink your eyes and take shallow breaths

One time that happened to me. I was dreaming about someone and I felt I had woken up from the dream but couldn't actually move or open my eyes. Thinking back now it was probably just part of the dream.

Place a bible next your bed. Open it before you sleep.
