You can no more prove an animal has "soul" or consciousness or awareness, or capacity for suffering, or for love, than you can for another human. But all of us make this assumption about other humans.

Many of us extend that assumption to other animals too. Quite rightly, in my view.

The alternative to this view is called solipcism. There is no rational reason to make the exception for other animals, on the evidence I've seen.

This is a serious moral question.

The difference with animals is that they do not have an eternal spirit that humans received when God breathed into them the breath of life at creation. They are only temporary creatures and cease to exist at death. Humans live in one way or another for eternity. Now that is a major factor in the value of humans vs animals. Even the Bible uses the comparison of wheat and straw vs prescious gems stating that when they go through the fire, the less valuable are destroyed, the more valuable go through it.

It's in our nature to protect our own over and above other species.

To a degree we have learnt to rise above this by protecting endangered species.

But the obvious dilemma is, save the human race or save seagulls?

We'll obviously do everything we can today to save both, but if it comes down to one or the other, we will ultimately ensure the survival of the species.

I hope I am getting your question correctly. Animals are Soul too. Soul is Soul, no one greater than the other. What separates Souls is the level of consciousness. It is the vanity of the human mind that makes him think that he is spiritually superior to his dog.

That's a good question. And, being so similar in design supports the fact that we were created rather than evolved.

God gave us a soul, not animals. God gave us a law, not animals. We broke God's law, not animals. God died for us, not animals.
